How to Pay for a Car Rental in Karachi

By RentOnUs Team · 14 October 2026

The question nobody asks out loud

People who have rented a car abroad arrive with a set of expectations: a credit card in the main driver’s name, a hold of several hundred dollars, a deposit, an excess, a queue at a counter, and a form about fuel policy.

Then they look at a Pakistani rental site, see none of that explained, and quietly assume the worst. We get the question often enough, usually phrased carefully, that it is clearly stopping people from booking.

So, plainly: you do not need a credit card, and there is no card hold.

How it actually works

You do not need a credit card

Cash, bank transfer and the usual mobile wallets are all normal. Nothing is blocked on a card, because nothing is placed on a card.

This matters more than it sounds for two groups: visitors whose cards do not reliably work in Pakistan, and residents who simply do not hold an international credit card. Neither is a barrier here.

There is no security deposit on a chauffeured booking

This is the part that surprises people most.

Almost all our work is with a driver. The vehicle never leaves our care, so the risk that a deposit exists to cover sits with us rather than with you. No deposit, no excess, no damage waiver to decline at a counter.

Self drive is available on a small number of vehicles and is handled differently, discussed case by case. See with driver or self drive for why most customers end up choosing a driver anyway.

The price is agreed before the car moves

One figure, settled before the vehicle leaves. Not a meter, not a day rate with items added at the end.

For an outstation trip, that figure covers the vehicle, the driver, fuel, tolls and the driver’s stay where the trip runs overnight. The quote you agree is the amount you pay.

When payment happens

Booking typeHow it usually works
A day or a few daysOn delivery or on completion

Booking from abroad

A good share of bookings come from overseas Pakistanis and visitors arranging an airport pickup before they fly.

Nothing is needed up front to hold a booking. Send your flight details and dates on WhatsApp, we confirm the vehicle and the price, and you settle on arrival. No card, no prepayment, no deposit.

Flights are tracked, so a delayed landing does not mean a missed pickup. See the Karachi airport pickup guide for how that works end to end.

What you do need

Less than you would expect, but not nothing:

  • Your name and a phone number we can reach you on. Any number, including an international one.
  • Dates, times and the pickup address.
  • For self drive only: CNIC and a valid driving licence. Not required for a chauffeured booking.

The full picture is in documents needed to rent a car in Karachi.

What we will not do

Worth stating, because the absence of these is the point:

  • No card hold
  • No deposit on a chauffeured booking
  • No fuel policy to argue about at the end
  • No counter to visit. The car and driver come to your address

Still unsure

Ask before booking rather than after. If something about the price or the payment is not clear, send the question on WhatsApp and we will answer it straight. A booking that starts with an unanswered question about money rarely ends well for either side.
