Renting a Car in Malir Cantt and Model Colony
By RentOnUs Team · 22 October 2026
The area that is close to everything and still hard to reach
Malir Cantt sits in eastern Karachi, immediately next to Jinnah International Airport. By distance it is one of the best placed residential areas in the city. By experience it often is not, and the reason is not traffic.
It is a cantonment. Malir Cantt is administered by Cantonment Board Malir under Station Headquarters rather than by the city district, and it runs its own municipal infrastructure. Entry and exit go through numbered check posts, generally referred to as Check Post 1 through Check Post 6, and those gates are the first thing that shapes any journey in or out.
That single fact changes how a car rental delivery has to work here, and it is the reason this guide exists.
Spelling, because it affects what you find
You will see this area written as Malir Cantt, Malir Cantonment and, very commonly, Malir Kent. The last one is a phonetic spelling rather than the official form, but plenty of people use it and search for it. They are all the same place.
Worth knowing if you are comparing suppliers and getting inconsistent results.
Getting a car into the cantonment
Here is the practical part.
Tell us your check post. This is the single most useful thing you can give us. “Askari 5, Sector J, Check Post 5” gets a car to you cleanly. “Malir Cantt” alone means a driver working it out at the gate.
Tell us the society too. Askari 5, DOHS Phase 1 or Phase 2, Falcon Complex, the AFOHS blocks in New Malir, Cantt Bazar area, Tipu Sultan Cooperative, Gulshan e Roomi. The cantonment is large and the sectors do not run in an obvious order to anyone who does not live there.
Allow a little more time than you would elsewhere. Most Karachi deliveries reach you inside one to two hours of confirmation. For the cantonment, build in some margin, particularly for an early morning booking.
Entry rules at the gates change, and we do not publish them. Access arrangements for civilian vehicles are set by the cantonment authorities and we are not going to state a rule here that might be out of date by the time you read it. What we do is coordinate with you on the day. If a gate is the constraint, the driver meets you at it rather than leaving you to solve it.
The airport run, which is the main reason people here book
Jinnah International is roughly 7 to 10 km away, about 15 to 25 minutes on a clear run. Congestion or a security cordon on the airport approach can take it to 35 or 45 minutes, so an early flight still deserves a margin, but this is as close as Karachi gets.
For a pre dawn departure we position the car the night before. Nobody should be standing at a gate at 3:30am refreshing an app.
For arrivals, the booking is flight tracked and the driver waits at arrivals with your name. A delayed landing does not turn into a missed pickup. The full process is in the Karachi airport pickup guide, and the service page is airport pickup and drop.
Going the other way: out of the city
Malir Cantt is also well placed for leaving Karachi, which people here use more than most.
The National Highway at Quaidabad is roughly 10 to 15 km out, and Super Highway access roughly 12 to 20 km. A Hyderabad run or a trip north starts without crossing the city.
For those, the vehicle matters more than it does for a city booking. A Toyota Fortuner or Toyota Prado at PKR 15,000 a day, or a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 at PKR 22,000 for a longer run. See city to city rental and, for the season, winter road trips from Karachi.
Into the city, which is the slow direction
This is where the map misleads people.
| From Malir Cantt to | Distance | Realistic time |
|---|---|---|
| Jinnah airport | 7 to 10 km | 15 to 25 min |
| Saddar and Karachi Cantt station | 21 to 30 km | 45 to 75 min |
| DHA and Clifton | 25 to 32 km | 50 to 90 min |
The usual route runs out onto Jinnah Avenue and Airport Road, then onto Shahrah e Faisal, which carries an enormous share of the city’s traffic. In the evening peak, the upper end of those ranges is the honest number.
If you are going to Clifton for dinner and coming back, that is roughly two hours of driving before you have eaten anything. It is the clearest case for a driver in the whole area.
Beyond the gates: Model Colony, Saudabad, Quaidabad
Most of what surrounds the cantonment is ordinary civilian Malir Town, and delivery there is straightforward with no gate involved.
We cover Model Colony, Saudabad, Khokhrapar, Kala Board, Jinnah Square, Kausar Town, Gharibabad and Quaidabad. These are usually faster to arrange than a cantonment delivery, so if you are flexible about where you take handover, meeting the car just outside a gate can save everyone time.

Rates
Published, and the same across Karachi. No cantonment surcharge.
| Vehicle | Seats | Per day with driver |
|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Alto | 4 | PKR 4,000 |
| Toyota Corolla GLi | 5 | PKR 5,000 |
| Honda City | 5 | PKR 5,000 |
| Honda BR-V | 7 | PKR 7,000 |
| Toyota Fortuner | 7 | PKR 15,000 |
| Toyota HiAce | 13 | PKR 10,000 |
| Toyota Coaster | 25 | PKR 15,000 |
A chauffeur is included. Fuel is agreed when you book. For a car you keep, a monthly rental works out well here, because the airport proximity means a lot of residents use a car in short bursts around flights rather than daily.
