Wedding Guest Transport in Karachi

The part that gets planned last

Venue, catering, clothes, photographer, cars for the family. Then two weeks out somebody asks how the sixty guests coming from the other side of the city are getting to the valima.

Guest transport is the least glamorous line in a wedding budget and the one most likely to cause a visible problem on the day, because the failure mode is forty people standing outside a house at the time they were supposed to be arriving somewhere else.

Book to your real headcount plus a little, not to your guest list. People arrive with a cousin nobody counted. A Coaster with three empty seats is fine; a Coaster with three people standing is not.

Why coaches beat a row of cars

The arithmetic is not close.

Twenty five guests in Corollas is five cars at PKR 5,000, so PKR 25,000. The same twenty five in one Coaster is PKR 15,000. The coach is PKR 10,000 cheaper before you count anything else.

And there is plenty else to count.

Parking. One vehicle at the venue gate rather than five looking for space. At a hotel with valet this is the difference between an arrival and a queue.

Arrival together. Five cars leaving one address reach the venue across a twenty minute spread. One coach arrives once. For a valima where the couple is receiving guests, that matters.

The dhol. Drummers and their drums do not fit in a sedan boot. They fit in a Coaster, which is the practical reason most baraat bookings include one.

One driver to brief. Five drivers means five people who each need the venue, the gate and the timing. One coach is one briefing.

When sedans are actually right

Two cases.

Elderly guests. A grandmother who struggles with the step into a Coaster should have a Corolla or Honda City at the door. Book one sedan alongside the coaches for exactly this and it will be the best PKR 5,000 you spend on the day.

Scattered pickups. Four guests in Malir and three in North Nazimabad is not a coach route, it is two sedans. A coach doing five collection points across Karachi spends the evening in traffic rather than at the venue.

Pickup points, and how many is too many

Each additional collection point costs fifteen to twenty five minutes in Karachi traffic. That is time, not money, and it is the single most common reason guest transport runs late.

Two or three points works. The bride’s family home, one hotel, one central meeting spot.

Six does not. By the fourth stop the people collected first have been sitting in a parked coach for over an hour and the whole thing arrives after the function started.

If guests are genuinely spread across the city, name one or two meeting points and ask people to get themselves there. A coach from a single point beats a coach that spends ninety minutes collecting.

Out of town guests

For weddings where family is flying or driving in, guest transport starts before the functions.

Airport collections. Flight tracked, driver waiting with a name board. See airport pickup.

Hotel shuttles. A HiAce or Coaster running hotel to venue and back across mehndi, baraat and valima. Quoted across the whole wedding rather than per trip.

Guests from elsewhere in Sindh. Hyderabad, Thatta and further is an outstation run, priced as one figure covering vehicle, driver, fuel and tolls.

A worked example

A 300 guest wedding where 60 need transport, three functions across three days.

Booked as a three day package rather than nine separate hires, that figure comes down. Multi day wedding bookings are quoted as one number rather than the sum of day rates.

Booking for the season

Karachi wedding season is November to January and December is the peak. The Coaster is the second vehicle to sell out every year, after the Fortuner, because every large wedding needs one and there are only so many in the city.

Six to eight weeks ahead for a December weekend. Four weeks for November or January.
